$15,000 Scholarship

The Alfie Scholars Program is proud to offer a $15,000 annual scholarship to students who are accepted into the program. Provided by the Civility Fund, the scholarship furthers our mission of providing access to higher education for students who come from diverse backgrounds.

The Summer Experience

Required for both junior and senior Alfie Scholars, the summer experience is a cornerstone of the Alfie Scholars Program and develops scholars’ potential for civility leadership, personal growth, and academic success.

Core curriculum courses

Alfie Scholars attend, as a cohort, two of their required core curriculum philosophy courses during summer sessions before their junior and senior years. These courses provide wrap-around academic enrichment instruction and other educationally enriching activities to prepare them to be civility leaders.

Research paper and conferences

Each summer, Alfie Scholars research, present, and write about an issue of social significance about which they want to influence a change for the common good. They learn to examine their issue through the lenses of civility and philosophy, and to analyze critically, creatively, and collaboratively in their search for solutions. At the end of the summer, each class presents their papers at a professional level conference.

Individual Advising and Instruction

Each Alfie Scholar has access to our team of education professionals for support and guidance including Program Director Carol Cochran. This ensures that each student receives the advising they need to complete their degree with excellence.

Civility Leadership Training

The Alfie Scholars Program aims to transform students into leaders committed to finding solutions to complex issues we face today. In addition to the summer programs their junior and senior years, Alfie Scholars receive intense training in civility leadership including cultivating emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and self-care; addressing bias, managing difficult conversations, and resolving conflict; decreasing othering and increasing community through shared humanity.
