Congratulations to Brenda Mata-Diaz (Nursing ‘22), the incoming mentorship officer for the Seattle University Bachelor of Science in Nursing Transfer Class of 2022. The Transfer BSN Cohort supports nursing students completing the final two years of their BSN at Seattle University.

A member of Cohort 5, Brenda’s passion for helping pre-nursing students motivated her to apply for the mentorship officer position. When reflecting on her recent achievement, Brenda shared, “As a first-generation college student, navigating the ups and downs of college has not always been easy. I lacked the support system that students need to feel motivated and aspired to keep pushing forward. And while being accepted into nursing school is an accomplishment, I was embarking on a new journey that brought along fears of falling. At Seattle University, I have met people who inspire me to be a support system for students and help guide them as they proceed with their goals.”

Brenda wants to encourage and uplift her fellow nursing students. As mentorship officer, her main goal is to “foster a community where students can share knowledge, advice, and resources while building relationships and networking at Seattle University.”

While serving on the class leadership team, Brenda is guiding and supporting pre-nursing by creating study guides and sharing them on her Etsy store page. In the future, Brenda plans to earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice. With this degree, she hopes to one day work as a surgical nurse practitioner.
