Congratulations to Elizabeth Vargas, Social Work, 2021, who was admitted to the Social Work Departmental Honors Program, BSW.

The honors major in social work offers an opportunity for motivated and capable students to engage in more extensive interaction with faculty and to complete challenging individual research projects that will further their personal and professional goals.

A first-generation college student originally from Mexico, Elizabeth hopes to provide educational advocacy for families. “I remember the anxiety and confusion navigating the educational system. I want to empower other immigrant families and their children to pursue higher education,” Elizabeth shared.

This past summer, Elizabeth presented “Discrimination Against Hispanic Immigrants and Its Effect in Education” at the annual 2019 Philosophy of the Civil Person, Alfie Scholar Junior Conference.
